Fluent is a language learning app that helps you practice speaking through AI-powered conversations. This page explains what data we collect and how we handle it. We aim to be straightforward — no legalese.

What we collect

Conversation transcripts. When you speak during a conversation, your audio is sent to Google Cloud Speech-to-Text to be transcribed into text. We store the text transcript of your conversations (both your messages and the tutor's responses) so you can review them later and track your progress.

We do not store your audio recordings. Audio is transcribed in real time and immediately discarded. We never save, retain, or replay your voice recordings.

Learning data. We store data related to your learning progress:

User settings. If you configure the app, we store your preferences: display name, target language, proficiency level, and explanation language.

Anonymous rate limiting. If you use Fluent without an account, we temporarily record your IP address to enforce a daily conversation limit (3 per day). This data is not linked to your conversations.

What we don't collect

Third-party services

Fluent uses the following services to function:

Your conversation text is sent to Google Gemini to generate tutor responses and grammar analysis. Google's data usage policies apply to the processing of this data.

Data retention

Your conversation history, progress, and vocabulary are stored as long as your account exists. Anonymous user data is kept as long as it remains associated with your device identifier.

Your choices

You can use Fluent without creating an account. Anonymous sessions use a device identifier generated by your browser.

If you'd like your data deleted, contact us and we'll remove it.
